Scientific Racism & Pure Stupidity.

"That is totally false. Pit Bulls have been proven time and time again to be very aggressive even when not brought up that way. Same goes for dobermans and St. Bernards. Has to do with breeding and brain cavity size! I agree it can be many breeds...but pit bulls, rotties...they are the worst."

This is a response I read today on a local newspaper website, and all I can say is, what the good fuck.
I'd like to share a couple other excellent "facts"

"... those races nearest to the southern half of the axis are of lower stature, with swarthy complexions, curly hair, black eyes, and little blood, on account of the sun. This poverty of blood makes them over-timid to stand up against the sword ... On the other hand, men born in cold countries are, indeed, ready to meet the shock of arms with great courage and without timidity"  - Marcus Vitruvius Pollio

 “Whites should not tyrannize over [blacks], for their disease should entitle them to a double portion of humanity. However, by the same token, whites should not intermarry with them, for this would tend to infect posterity with the ‘disorder’… attempts must be made to cure the disease.” -Benjamin Rush on "Negroidism"

And, fitting ever so well;

“...the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew.” -Adolf Hitler

I'll finish the post off with a picture of Jackson giving Daisy, his new pal a good old-fashioned lick-down grooming <3

More than meets the eye.

There's a lot more than meets the eye. I absolutely love this picture because all the breeds have what people would call very distinct "pit bull" features, yet they are not all even PART Staffordshire pit bull.
Are we seriously wrapping up all dogs that look like "Pit Bulls", that one group of dog is taking the "evil" wrap for everyone?

I read a comment a woman had posted a few days ago about a pit bull attack she had read about in the paper, front page. The article apparently read; "PIT BULL ATTACK" or something along those lines. She said that the next week, in the far back of the newspaper she found a small article reading; "Dog attack breed miss- identification".

Thank you Paige.

I'd like to share a response from a "top ten most dangerous dogs" webpage. I hope you don't mind, Paige. I did not write any of this response, copywrite goes to Paige, if she does care.

Staff Writers,A few things about your facts about pitbulls.Pitbulls do have natural aggression towards dogs & other animals. They’re naturally prey driven, as are many dogs. The aggression towards dogs can be socialized out of them, as with almost all bad behavior.Pitbulls are not inherently aggressive towards humans, that is a developed trait. Looks like killing these dogs and/or banning them from certain areas haven’t stopped anything, let’s focus on something other than the dogs developed problems. Pitbull were originally bred to fight and had to stop when their humans stepped into the ring so they were bred without human aggression. As with any dog, if un-socialized, the dog can become aggressive towards other humans.Sadly, pitbull attack statistics are not reliable. Most times the media or uneducated people refer to any “bully” breed as a pitbull. Most times when a dog has one or two characteristics of a pitbull it will be labeled as such, even if the dog has no pit in it. One of my dogs is constantly mistaken as a pit but has no pit in him. (we had him DNA tested when we rescued him) If the media reported attacks without the breed of the dog, do you think people would care as much? Do you really think that the media would report all the attacks?
Pitbulls are high energy and intense animals and can be the best family pet around when raised properly. These dogs need exercise daily, not just some time to romp around outside, they need structured exercise.
And good GOD can you please stop spreading the lies that pitbull’s jaw’s LOCK. They don’t. They’re strong but there is no locking mechanism. “However, pit bull-type dogs exhibit “bite, hold, and shake” behavior, which is seen in all breeds of dogs, and at times refuse to release when biting; methods to force pit bull-type dogs to release their grip include breaking an ammonia ampule and holding it up to the dog’s nose, or using a “break stick” to lever the dog’s jaws open if it bites a person or animal”
While I appreciate trying to educate people regarding the potential dangers of owning a dog but what happened to fact checking, outside of wikipedia? I mean the lock jaw myth was dispelled years ago. Making blanket statements about these animals is poor journalism. I’m sure that there are other issues with statements made about the other dogs but I don’t know much about the other breeds because I do not own them, although I’m pretty sure my mutt might have some great dane or dalmatian in him. This list just seems like it was hurriedly put together without the proper fact checking.

Letter to Local Newspapers on "Vicious Dogs"

To whom it may concern;

My name is Kelsey Coutts and I've been a resident in the Parksville area since I was 11, so about 13 years.
 I'd like to introduce my just-turned-1-year-old Blue Nose Staffordshire PitBull Terrier, MJ.
MJ loves snugging, swimming, running, playing fetch, tussling with other dogs, learning new tricks, going for long walks, and of course treats. When MJ meets new little dogs, or children, he lays on the ground to get as small and close to their size as possible, which is nearly impossible for all of his 70lbs, but adorable none-the-less. When he meets other big dogs, he is pure wiggles. Nothing makes him happier than getting to run as fast as he can with another dog of his speed, jumping over each other's backs, and wrestling each other to the ground in heaps of drool.
As a dog owner, I realize the extreme importance of constant socialization and contact for MJ, from all other creatures, which is why my boyfriend and I were looking forward to the time we would get to spend at the public dog park, running him.
I have been growing a pretty thick skin for the last little while. I'm getting used to fathers literally picking their daughter's up by the arm to move off the same side of street as me and my dog, getting used to the dirty looks I get when my dog cries because someone else's dog is FREAKING OUT, I'm getting used to a lot of things I had never experienced as a dog owner before; But one thing I was not prepared for in the least was the blatant discrimination against this breed and similar breeds to the extent that it is, being supported by town council. I could hardly believe my eyes as I read the public dog park rules.
 "No vicious Dog Breeds"
My first thought obviously, who the hell decides what BREED is vicious? Is it fair for me to assume that all of those sitting on town council are racists or homophobes, because a past council member may have had an issue?
I had believed us to be a much more advanced species, but instead apparently we're still demonizing breeds based on separate cases in the breed. I believe even a bad tempered dog needs socialization (maybe more, perhaps), and it is the responsibility of the owner to take the necessary actions to keep their dog secure, and comfortable, as well as the people around them, and in this respect I do understand the "vicious dog" muzzling/dog park bylaw.... but for "vicious dogs".
MJ is not a vicious dog because he was born a Pitbull.
 I am not on welfare because I was born Irish, nor am I an alcoholic because I was born Carrier.
How simple would it be to create a "bully breed" dog park for friendly bully breeds? How much funding would it really take to put up another row of fences? Our large breed dogs are not going to be socialized without the chance for socialization. I'm not talking about a dog park for the vicious, crazy, blood thirsty individual dogs of our town, I'm talking a dog park with the SAME rules as the dog parks we have now, but with no discrimination against breed.
 MJ is not my first time dog.
 For years I had a Shihtzu Maltese cross, a tiny black little bundle of adorable. My Shihtzu Maltese did not like other dogs. He did not like people very much, and he did not like children especially. It blows my mind constantly comparing my role as a owner, and how people react towards these two dogs- a 70lb who would harm not a single thing, a 5lb who had anxiety and would rather be left alone, and would get nippy if he was not left alone.
 I ask Parksville to reconsider it's "vicious dog" ideas, and re-categorize "vicious dogs" properly. Demonizing a breed will do nothing but make the breed more attractive still for the wrong people.
As any dog trainer would be happy to tell you, It's never the dog breed, it's the way he's treated.

Thank you, Best regards
Kelsey
